Foundation design is not a standard detail applied to every site. It is a response to what the ground beneath a specific plot can carry, and that has to be established rather than assumed.
A soil investigation tells you bearing capacity, water table and whether the ground is expansive or made-up. On a filled or waterlogged site, the correct foundation may be substantially different — and substantially more expensive — than the one used next door.
Reinforcement, concrete grade, curing and drainage around the substructure all matter as much as depth. Poor curing in Nigerian heat can quietly halve the strength you paid for.
Have the design done by a qualified structural engineer and inspected before concrete is poured. It is the one stage where getting it wrong cannot be remedied by spending more later.
